Donation Update October 2020

Picture
Thanks all members for your great generosity!

Since the first meeting in September we have donated 109 quilts.  61 went to the NICU.  The West Kelowna Nurse Family Partnership, Kids Count at KCR, Salvation Army and Kelowna Women’s Shelter have also received quilts that were larger or smaller than the 35-40 inch size needed at the NICU.
It is important that members try to make the quilts 35-40 inches square.
As of October 27th meeting, we have received 223 donated quilts.  Another 61 will be delivered to KGH early in November.
If anyone has Christmas themed quilts, please hand them in before November 10th for delivery to the NICU.

The photo shows the loaded wagon with quilts received at the meeting on October 27, 2020!

Donation sewing day October 2020

There was plenty of material available for Christmas stockings!
Barb gave a demo and many happily sewed all morning.
Joan showed two modern donation quilts.

A touching message from a new mom who received a quilt at the NICU:

One of our member wrote:

"I had a conversation today with a new Mom today who has had a rough time lately - COVID, baby in NICU, a death in the family, and an injured relative......  However, the one ray of sunshine was the beautiful quilt she received from the Guild.
She couldn't believe that it was just given to her and she was so appreciative!

Her name is Theresa and she would love to thank the guild member who made this quilt, but didn't know where to send a message."

If you recognize this quilt, send  a note to the Guild!
Thank you to everyone who contributes quilts to the NICU!

In Memory of Peggy

Marg made a memory quilt in remembrance of her mother, Peggy. This quilt will be going to her brother and has memories of happy childhood holidays spent at the cabin near Deep River.
Peggy was an honorary member of our Guild and was born in 1915. Her positive attitude and kindness was a great  example to us all.

Tree Blocks for Australia

Remember contributing the tree blocks for Australia? The blocks are used to make quilts for those who lost so much during the devastating fires. These photos were found on a  Blog from France! The Australian Quilters have been hard at work!
The members of our Guild made 90 Tree blocks for a The Wollongong Modern Quilt Guild  in Australia.
The members of this Guild will make quilts for those who lost everything in the Australian FIres.

February 2020 Paper Piecing Tutorial

A successful tutorial by Susan Meanley, Pat Caldwell, Sharon Planche-Williams, and Barb Segal. So much talent in our Guild! Thank you!

A touching story from the past

On the Quilt Canada Facebook page, the image of this quilt was found with the following message:
"Almost 5 years ago, in the Kelowna NICU, we were gifted this beautiful quilt after the early arrival of our little baby girl. While everything eventually turned out perfectly, and we went home with our healthy, happy sweet daughter, those first few days were very scary. This gift to our baby was so incredibly kind and so much appreciated. I often wonder about the kind-hearted stranger who put so much effort into making something so beautiful for a new life they had never even met. And now, just getting into quilting myself, do I ever have a new appreciation for the work that went into it! To all of you who donate your incredible projects to NICU babies, Veterans, people in need, or Kangaroos❤, Bless your lovely hearts."

I am not sure if we will find the member who made this quilt, but it shows how our work is appreciated!
