January 2021 Message from Barb S. our Donation Chair
Hi everyone,
I delivered another 60 quilts to KGH this week. That brings our total quilt donations to 240 since September. Great work everyone!
My storage containers are in quarantine at the NICU for 2 weeks. Until I get them back I ask that you continue to store quilts at your home. I have enough quilts for the next delivery in approximately 2 months.
Due to the rules against gathering, I have not been able to meet with any of my usual OVQG helpers to prepare kits or batting. However, my husband helped cut batting today. If you need batting please send a message through Contacts on the website or by phoning Barb directly.
I am willing to meet you at my condo door with batting or labels. Kits are not available at this time.

Thank You Notes for NICU Quilts!

Hello Orchard Valley Quilters Guild,
My husband and I had our first child in November. Unfortunately, we had to spend about a week in the NICU at KGH. During the difficult time, the quilts your group donated to the NICU provided a lovely splash of color and softness. The NICU informed us that we could take our quilt home, so now our son has a lovely quilt made by Sharon Williams. I just wanted to reach out and thank you very much for your donation and let you know that it was a very appreciated ray of sunshine while we were in the NICU.
Take care,
Sincerely,
Samantha, Joe, and baby Kevin.

POP-UP DONATION DAY JULY 22, 2020
OVQG Pop-up Donation Day
Thank you to everyone that attended the Pop-up Donation Day on July 22nd.
101 fabulous quilts were collected at the day and kindly dropped off ahead of the event. We should now have enough quilts to supply the NICU till the end of September. I have also received quilts that will allow us to supply the West Kelowna Nurse Family Partnership and Kids Count for all of the coming year. They receive the quilts larger or smaller than what the NICU needs.
Here is the link to the video by Global News. Thanks to Claudia VanEmmerik for the videos!
This link from Global News also includes a text of the interview.
The video includes a great section about Margaret Englehert!

A Wonderful NICU Story

A touching message from a new mom who received a quilt at the NICU:
One of our member wrote:
"I had a conversation today with a new Mom today who has had a rough time lately - COVID, baby in NICU, a death in the family, and an injured relative...... However, the one ray of sunshine was the beautiful quilt she received from the Guild.
She couldn't believe that it was just given to her and she was so appreciative!
Her name is Theresa and she would love to thank the guild member who made this quilt, but didn't know where to send a message."
If you recognize this quilt, send a note to the Guild!
Thank you to everyone who contributes quilts to the NICU!

OVQG Pop-up Donation Day - May 6, 2020
May 6: What a great success at our Donation Pop-up Day!
Our members braved cold and rain to deliver NICU Quilts. Barb Segal our donation chair received 115 quilts.
Quilts from The Pincushion Guild were received as well!
Members were able to replenish their stash safely at the various stations for batting, backing and 1/2 yard cuts.
Thanks to Jim and Linda at Linda’s Quilt Shoppe for her cooperation and the lending of her classroom space for this event. Our members were able to use the space to warm up and sew the labels.
