UP CLOSE exhibit, presented by Fibre Art Network
Close used as an adjective or adverb has the following meanings: close adjective (CAREFUL) - giving your full attention to something so that you notice its details: close adjective, adverb [-er/-est only] (NEAR) - near in position, time, or condition: close adjective (CONNECTED) [-er/-est only ] - connected or involved in strong relationship with someone When you look at something or someone with your full atten- tion you notice things that you might not have seen before, or you may see it in a different way. What is it that makes you want to get UP CLOSE? What do you see/hear/feel when you look at something UP CLOSE? Look at a leaf, a rock, a face or your wood furniture, or try us- ing a microscope or binoculars. During the pandemic we were encouraged to stay apart - now at least we can be close to others, although still with limits. Whether it is detail, nearness or connection, UP CLOSE is a unique and individual perspective. Artists were invited to express any aspect of what UP CLOSE means or looks like to them. |
Summer Challenge is for the Birds!

From photos to fibre Art
A fabulous reveal of Marg’s smARTies photo art collaboration! Impressive creative interpretations of colour texture and pattern in each piece brings the scene to life. The tractors and flowers photo was taken by Karen at Hazeldell Orchards last summer and was the inspiration for these works of art. So excited to see it all come together. Each artist received a quarter section of the photograph earlier this year, unaware of what the rest of the photo looked like.
The instructions: create a fibre masterpiece.
16 artists. 2 photos cut into 4 quadrants each X 2
Congratulations to all participants!

Our smARTies Artistic Mission reached a climax at the quilt show with the unveiling of the two completed panel assemblies: the colours and the neutrals. The display at the entrance to the quilt show caught the attention and interest of our visitors, and the reaction was overwhelmingly positive. Congratulations to the creators of these masterpieces! Watch for their next appearance at the Creativity and Aging Symposium at the RCA on June 19, and at ArtWalk in September. Scroll down for a closer look! Click on each panel for more detailed explanations from the artists who created these stunning pieces.
