The Orchard Valley Quilters Guild meets every Tuesday morning from 9 a.m. to noon from September through May at the Okanagan Mission Hall (corner of Lakeshore and DeHart) in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. Click here for map.
Our meetings provide members with friendship, support, inspiration and encouragement. We welcome quilters and fabric artists of all levels of expertise. Our members practice traditional, modern, hand, machine, and art quilting. Meetings are a great place to learn, socialize and exchange ideas.
Guests and new members are always welcome.
GUILD MEETINGS 2021
Public Order from Dr Henry from November 20, 2020
Hi Everyone,
In keeping with the current Covid restrictions, the Guild meetings are cancelled until new orders from Health Authority.
We will advise everyone when we can get together again as soon as we receive the OK from the Mission Hall and Dr Henry.
We would greatly appreciate it if you could continue to make quilt donations for the NICU. Please "quarantine" these quilts for the time being until we hear from Barb Segal as to when we can drop them off.
Thank you,
Sharon, Guild President

2021 Update
Thank you to OVQG members for their continued dedication to the guild donation program. None of this is possible without you.
In January 60 quilts were delivered to the NICU bringing the total to 192 since September 1st.
Another 60 will be delivered in March, including any Easter quilts.
Since the start of 2021 members have dropped off 30 quilts and received 56 pieces of batting. They have also picked up many new-to-you projects from a donation that I received via Cottage Quilting.
Check your email or the announcements here to view pictures of the projects available.

When it is possible to travel again....
December 2020
December is the season of light and hope. This year it is uniquely challenging, often uncertain, but it is also an opportunity for growth. As we stay close to home with reduced activities, we are learning to appreciate what we already have. We are reminded how much we are connected and realize that our actions and our choices affect others. We have become more aware of the pressing need for social change. The key message of the Quilt, ‘a place for all’, is now more relevant, more pressing than ever. Acceptance of others means moving beyond the issues that divide us to caring for one another. When love and respect are shown, hope comes alive!
2020 has been a rollercoaster year for Quilt of Belonging! The impact of COVID 19 has changed our plans month to month, even week to week. The Quilt show at Woodland Cultural Centre in Brantford, Ontario opened February 29th with a closing date of May 9th. Visitors enjoyed easy access to the exhibit. But a month later, the museum shut down. It was six months before it reopened, this time with strict protocols in place. The closing date moved to November 3rd after which the Quilt was heading home.
Unexpectedly, we had an exciting change of direction. From Brantford, the Quilt headed not east, but west to the new Royal Alberta Museum (RAM) in Edmonton, “the largest museum in western Canada and one of the top museums in Canada.” The Quilt will be the feature exhibit at the RAM from January to April 18th, 2021.

Happy Holidays to all our members!
Here is a slide show to remember 2020! We carried on despite the Pandemic of 2020, we made quilts for friends or family, for babies we did not know or for stangers in need.
We made caps and masks for front line workers.
We made Christmas Stockings to brighten someone's holidays!
We made quilts with scraps, with houses, with stars, with wool, but most of all with love!

POP-UP DONATION DAY JULY 22, 2020
OVQG Pop-up Donation Day
Thank you to everyone that attended the Pop-up Donation Day on July 22nd.
101 fabulous quilts were collected at the day and kindly dropped off ahead of the event. We should now have enough quilts to supply the NICU till the end of September. I have also received quilts that will allow us to supply the West Kelowna Nurse Family Partnership and Kids Count for all of the coming year. They receive the quilts larger or smaller than what the NICU needs.
Here is the link to the video by Global News. Thanks to Claudia VanEmmerik for the videos!
This link from Global News also includes a text of the interview.
The video includes a great section about Margaret Englehert!
